For the second summer in a row, the Atlanta Music Project is offering free string lessons at the Coan Recreation Center in the Edgewood neighborhood.

The registration period was open during the month of May and every single spot (50) was taken! Students are between grades one and ten and come mostly from schools in the Maynard Jackson High School Cluster. Registration was open to all children from anywhere in Metro Atlanta, as long as they could commit to coming to all classes.

The summer string classes are Saturday mornings and are divided between beginner and intermediate students. A concert will be held on Saturday June 29 at 2:00pm at the Coan Recreation Center. Students receive AMP instruments for the duration of the summer.

Summer string classes are being led by Bridgette Yancy (violin – and also the String Orchestra Director at Coan Middle School), Dr. Lana Avis (viola), Jessica Kornhoff (cello), Katie Algarra (Double Bass).

Thank you to the Coan Recreation Center for hosting our summer program and to the Zeist Foundation for their financial support.
