Site Assistant

$15.75/hour, Starting August 2023

Summary of Position

In alignment with the Atlanta Music Project (AMP) mission, the AMP Site Assistant will assist AMP program leaders and faculty with administrative and musical tasks at various AMP band, orchestra and choir site.

The successful candidate will possess an unyielding commitment to empowering youth to realize their possibilities through music. These positions report to the relevant Program Manager or Associate. 

The Site Assistant position is ideal for recent college graduates who studied music, as well as current music majors. 

About the Atlanta Music Project

Founded in 2010, the Atlanta Music Project provides world-class music training supporting youth growth and development. Operating in under-resourced communities, AMP’s mission is to empower youth to realize their possibilities through music.

In addition to after-school learning sites providing band, orchestra and choir instruction, AMP’s programs include: the AMP Academy, providing advanced musical training to AMP’s most talented and dedicated students; the AMP Preparatory School for elementary school-aged musicians; the AMP Summer Series, a music festival and school; and the AMP Youth Orchestras and Choirs. AMP also has a college and career program supporting AMP alumni. With a projected 2023-20224 annual operating budget of $2.9MM, AMP will serve over 500 young musicians.

AMP music ensembles perform more than 50 concerts annually, performing in venues all across Atlanta, from community centers to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. AMP music ensembles have performed alongside international stars such as the Harlem Quartet, electric violinist Lindsey Stirling, cellist Sterling Elliott, operatic baritone Ed Parks, rapper Lecrae, R&B singer Monica, and The Imani Winds. AMP musicians can be seen performing with rapper T.I. on NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series.

AMP’s young musicians have successfully auditioned for Georgia All-State ensembles, the Atlanta Opera, and have concertized as far away as Los Angeles, Aspen, Mexico City and Scotland. AMP is a 2019 winner of ArtsATL’s Luminary Award for Arts Education and a 2018 winner of Emory University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award. In 2016 and 2017, the White House named AMP one of the top 50 youth arts programs in the nation.

AMP’s existence is a direct result of the 2009 TED Prize, which was awarded to Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu, founder of Venezuela’s El Sistema. AMP’s co-founders were members of the Sistema Fellows Program at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

AMP’s current and past funders include Carnegie Hall, PwC, Bank of America, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, Mailchimp, The Zeist Foundation, the Abraham J. & Phyllis Katz Foundation, the Harland Charitable Foundation, the Arthur M. Responsibilities/Opportunities:

  • Learn, understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
  • Complete administrative tasks such as attendance, photocopies, class/rehearsal set up and take down, social media, preparing flyers/announcements, communication with parents/guardians
  • Perform stagehand duties at selected AMP concerts
  • Other administrative tasks as needed
  • Assist program leaders and faculty as needed
  • Occasionally teach and/or mentor AMP students
  • Form effective work relationship with other AMP Site Assistants
  • Attend peer exchange/training workshops throughout the year

Ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in music education, music performance, education, social work or related field; OR be a current undergraduate or graduate student 
  • Possess some proficiency on one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, voice
  • Be extremely reliable
  • Be always punctual        
  • Possess a passion for music as a tool for positive social change
  • Possess the ability to inspire, work with, and mentor youths ages 6 and up
  • Possess excellent proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
  • Possess excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
  • Possess ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor

Notes: The Site Assistant is a part-time, hourly ($15.75/hour) position starting in August 2023. This position requires a car. Background check required. AMP program sites are located throughout the 30310, and south of Interstate 20 generally. Rehearsals take place weekday afternoons/evenings, and Saturdays. Interviews will take place at the AMP Center for Performance & Education 883 Dill Ave SW Atlanta, GA 30310.
