ANNOUNCES AN OPENING FOR 

AMP ACADEMY FRENCH HORN TEACHING ARTIST

Hourly Position

Starting October 2018

Statement of Job:

In alignment with the Atlanta Music Project (AMP) mission, the AMP Academy French Horn Teaching Artist will be responsible for the individual teaching and development of AMP French horn students. The AMP Academy provides advanced musical training to AMP’s most talented and dedicated students. AMP Academy students receive a weekly private lesson from an AMP Teaching Artist, perform two recitals per year, perform in masterclasses and complete an annual jury.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Learn, understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
  • Teach private French horn lessons to advanced AMP Academy hornists
  • Choose, prepare and/or arrange appropriate repertoire for private French horn lessons
  • Teach private French horn lessons as part of the AMP Academy
  • Liaise with parents/families of AMP Academy French horn students
  • Coordinate and cooperate with the AMP Academy Coordinator in keeping track of AMP students’ attendance and musical progress
  • Form effective partnerships with fellow AMP teaching artists through planning and co-teaching
  • Attend peer exchange and professional development workshops
  • Execute additional administrative tasks as necessary
  • Occasionally perform on French horn in paid chamber music concerts with other AMP Teaching Artists

Ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor and/or Master of Music in French horn
  • Passion for music as a vehicle for positive social change
  • Exemplary French horn teaching ability, including middle school and high school students
  • Exemplary music performance ability/experience on French horn
  • Experience working (music-related or other) with disadvantaged, urban/rural youth is a plus
  • Ability to inspire, work with and mentor youths
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
  • Ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor

Notes: Pay rate is $45/hour. Background check required. Teaching schedule is flexible with lessons being taught after school from 4:00pm to 7:30pm on weekdays and 8:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays and 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Private lessons will be held at AMP’s Gilbert House site, located at 2238 Perkerson Road SW Atlanta, GA 30315.
