AMP ACADEMY TROMBONE TEACHING ARTIST

Hourly Position

Starting September 2019

Statement of Job:

In alignment with the Atlanta Music Project (AMP) mission, the AMP Academy Trombone Teaching Artist will be responsible for the individual teaching and development of AMP trombone students. The AMP Academy provides advanced musical training to AMP’s most talented and dedicated students. AMP Academy students receive a weekly private lesson from an AMP Teaching Artist, perform three recitals per year, perform in masterclasses and complete an annual performance adjudication.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn, understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
  • Teach private trombone lessons to advanced AMP trombonists
  • Choose, prepare and/or arrange appropriate repertoire for private trombone lessons
  • Teach private trombone lessons as part of the AMP Academy
  • Liaise with parents/families of AMP Academy trombone students
  • Coordinate and cooperate with the AMP Academy Program Associate in keeping track of AMP students’ attendance and musical progress
  • Form effective partnerships with fellow AMP teaching artists through planning and co-teaching
  • Attend peer exchange and professional development workshops
  • Execute additional administrative tasks as necessary

Ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor and/or Master of Music in trombone
  • Passion for music as a vehicle for positive social change
  • Exemplary trombone teaching ability, including middle school and high school students
  • Exemplary music performance ability/experience on trombone
  • Experience working (music-related or other) with disadvantaged, urban/rural youth is a plus
  • Ability to inspire, work with and mentor youths
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
  • Ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor

Notes: Pay rate is $50/hour. Background check required. Teaching schedule is flexible with lessons being taught at the Atlanta Music Project Center for Performance & Education located at 883 Dill Ave SW Atlanta, GA 30310.
