AMP Summer Series Camp Counselor

Summary of Position
In alignment with the Atlanta Music Project (AMP) mission, the AMP Summer Series Camp Counselor will be responsible for the well-being of campers in grades 1 through 12 and assist AMP program leaders and faculty with administrative tasks throughout the AMP Summer Series.
The Atlanta Music Project Summer Series is a 4-week music festival and school, based in the Capitol View neighborhood in Southwest Atlanta. The 2023 AMP Summer Series will be held from June 5 – June 30, 2023 and feature symphony orchestra, string orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, chamber ensembles and several concerts by AMP students, faculty and guest artists.
The successful candidate will possess an unyielding commitment to the safety and well-being of children, and a belief in empowering youth to realize their possibilities through music. These positions report to the relevant Program Manager or Associate.
The AMP Summer Series Camp Counselor position is ideal for recent college graduates and current college students.
Responsibilities/Opportunities:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of AMP Summer Series students
- Learn, understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
- Lead fun and engaging field & camp activities with students (elementary/middle/high school) that go beyond music (arts, crafts, sports, games, etc.)
- Be responsible for students during break times, recesses, lunch time, and before and after classes
- Accompany large groups of students and walk with them through the day
- Complete administrative tasks such as attendance, photocopies, class/rehearsal set up and take down, social media, preparing flyers/announcements, communication with parents/guardians
- Perform stagehand duties at selected AMP concerts
- Other administrative tasks as needed
- Assist program leaders and faculty as needed
- Form effective work relationship with other AMP Site Assistants
- Attend peer exchange/training workshops
- Serve as a role model to campers
- Keep students active & engaged outside of rehearsals
- Work with students grades 1-12
Ideal candidate will:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree, or be a current undergraduate or graduate student
- Have at least one summer of experience as a camp counselor OR experience as a classroom teacher
- Have first aid and CPR certification
- Play a musical instrument or sing
- Be extremely reliable
- Always be punctual
- Possess a passion for music as a tool for positive social change
- Possess the ability to inspire, work with, and mentor youths ages 6 and up
- Possess proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a team
- Possess the ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor
- Have a positive attitude, sensitivity, and compassion
- Ability to work in an environment with high sensory input, especially auditory
Notes:
- The Camp Counselor position is a full-time, hourly ($15.00/hour) position starting June 5 2023 and ending June, 2023, plus one day of training on June 2, 2023
- Shifts are on weekdays from 8:00am to 5:00pm and 9:00am to 6:00pm
- Shifts are also required for evening concerts on June 9, June, 15, June 20, June 21, and June 22
- The AMP Summer Series takes place at the AMP Center for Performance & Education and Sylvan Hills Middle School
- Interviews will take place at the AMP Center for Performance & Education
- Background check required
- Must be available to work the entire program

Founded in 2010, the Atlanta Music Project provides world-class music training and performance opportunities supporting youth growth and development. Operating in under-resourced communities, AMP’s mission is to empower youth to realize their possibilities through music. AMP music ensembles perform more than 50 concerts annually, performing in venues all across Atlanta, from community centers to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. AMP music ensembles have performed alongside international stars such as the Harlem Quartet, electric violinist Lindsey Stirling, pianist Terrence Wilson, soprano Alison Buchanan, rapper Lecrae, R&B singer Monica, and the Imani Winds. AMP musicians can be seen performing with rapper T.I. on NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series. AMP’s young musicians have successfully auditioned for Georgia All-State ensembles, the Atlanta Opera, and have concertized as far away as Los Angeles, Aspen, Mexico City and Scotland. AMP is a 2019 winner of ArtsATL’s Luminary Award for Arts Education and a 2018 winner of Emory University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award. In 2016 and 2017, the White House named AMP one of the top 50 youth arts programs in the nation.
AMP’s existence is a direct result of the 2009 TED Prize, which was awarded to Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu, founder of Venezuela’s El Sistema. AMP’s co-founders were members of the Sistema Fellows Program at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
