Beginner Violin Teaching Artist

Statement of Job:

In alignment with the Atlanta Music Project (AMP) mission, the Beginner Violin Teaching Artist will be responsible for the training of AMP Beginner Violin students and the artistic development of the high strings section of AMP student orchestras.


  • Learn, understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
  • Choose, prepare and/or arrange appropriate repertoire for Beginner Violin lessons/high strings classes and occasionally, string orchestra
  • Submit detailed lesson plans as requested
  • Teach Beginner Violin group lessons
  • Coordinate and cooperate with Lead Teaching Artist in keeping track of AMP students’ attendance and musical progress
  • Form effective partnerships with fellow AMP teaching artists through planning and co-teaching
  • Attend peer exchange and professional development workshops
  • Execute additional administrative tasks as necessary

Ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor and/or Master of Music (preferred)
  • Passion for music as a vehicle for positive social change
  • Experience working (music-related or other) with disadvantaged, urban/rural youth
  • Exemplary music performance ability/experience on Beginner Violin
  • Exemplary Beginner Violin teaching ability (group lesson experience a plus)
  • Experience leading string section rehearsals
  • Ability to inspire, work with and mentor youths ages 6 and up
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
  • Ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor

Notes: Pay rate is $40.50/hour for teaching up to 6 hours/week, minimum 30 weeks. Background check required. Must be available at Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. AMP program schedule offers some flexibility for freelancing gigs. AMP classes will take place at the South Bend Center for Arts & Culture 1755 Compton Drive SE Atlanta, GA 30315.
