Statement of Job:

The AMP Junior Youth Choir Conductor will lead rehearsals and performances for the AMP Junior Youth Choir (4th – 7th grade) during out-of-school hours in alignment with AMP’s mission

General Responsibilities:

  • Understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
  • Lead a minimum of two choral rehearsals of AMP Junior Youth Choir weekly during the out of school hours
  • Lead a minimum of four performances of the AMP Junior Youth Choir
  • Create environment that inspires children to sing and grow within a group of their peers
  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Program Officer in the selection of choral repertoire representing a wide variety of musical styles
  • Aid in defining and assessing musical learning outcomes
  • Build relationships with AMP families to facilitate student development
  • Coordinate and cooperate with AMP staff in keeping track of AMP students’ attendance and progress
  • Form effective partnerships with fellow AMP teachers through planning and co-teaching
  • Mentor AMP students
  • Attend peer exchange and professional development workshops
  • Execute additional administrative tasks as necessary

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Music

Ideal candidate will possess:

  • Minimum 2-4 years experience of conducting children’s choral ensembles
  • Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy and repertoire for children’s choirs
  • Competence in conducting all styles of music
  • Classroom experience, preferably elementary and middle school
  • Passion for music as a vehicle for positive social change
  • Desire to work with disadvantaged, urban/rural communities
  • Ability to inspire, work with and mentor children and teens
  • Experience working in an after-school environment
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
  • Ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor
  • Desire to help AMP develop into a nationally-recognized music training program

Notes: Pay rate is $50/hr. Background check required. Candidate should have availability Thursday evenings between the hours of 6:30PM – 8:00PM and Saturday mornings 8:30AM – 11:00AM.  Rehearsals will be held at the AMP Center for Performance & Education, located at 883 Dill Avenue, SW Atlanta, GA  30310.
