The AMP Preparatory School

The AMP Preparatory School is our beginner-level programming for elementary school students in grades 1 to 6. Classes are taught in groups and performances are held regularly throughout the year. Focus Areas of the Preparatory School include:

AMP PREPARATORY CHOIRS

The AMP Preparatory Choirs are training choirs serving students in grades 1 to 5. These choirs are choirs are designed for students interested in making friends while learning and performing music in a choral setting. No experience is needed.

AMP PREPARATORY STRING ORCHESTRAS

The AMP String Orchestras are group classes for violin, viola, cello, and double bass, serving students in grades 1 to 6. These group classes are designed for students interested in making friends while learning and performing music in an orchestral setting. No experience is needed. All instruments and class materials provided by AMP.

AMP PREPARATORY CONCERT BAND

The AMP Preparatory Concert Band consists of ensemble classes for the following concert band instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. Serving students in grades 3 to 6. These group classes are designed for students interested in making friends while learning and performing music in a concert band setting. No experience is needed. All instruments and class materials are provided by AMP.

The AMP Afterschool Orchestra & Band

In partnership with the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, the AMP Afterschool Orchestra program provides instruction in band and orchestra instruments. All music classes take place within the after-school programs of the Department of Parks and Recreation. No musical experience necessary. No auditions. Spots are filled on a first-come first-serve basis.

PERKERSON PARK RECREATION CENTER

Grades: 1 to 8 (most appropriate for grades 1 to 5)

Instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass

Class Times: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 4:00pm – 6:00pm

Due to the intensity of this program schedule, students progress rapidly on their instrument. In order to maintain the optimal program experience for all students and teaching artists, it is mandatory to attend all four days of classes each week. The AMP Junior & Senior Youth Choirs

The AMP Youth Choirs are the most advanced vocal ensembles at AMP and are designed for young musicians who are already proficient singers.

Performing both standard choral music and songs representing the culture of the communities we serve, it is our goal for the AMP Youth Choirs to become one of the top youth choir programs in the country.

The AMP Youth Choirs consist of two ensembles: the Junior Youth Choir and the Senior Youth Choir.

The AMP Junior & Senior Youth Orchestras

The AMP Youth Orchestras are the most advanced instrumental ensembles at AMP and are designed for young musicians in middle and high school who are already experienced performers.

Performing both standard symphonic music and musical genres representing the culture of the communities we serve, it is our goal for the AMP Youth Orchestras to become one of the top youth training orchestra programs in the country.

The AMP Youth Orchestras consist of two ensembles: the Junior Youth Orchestra and the Senior Youth Orchestra.

Both ensembles include: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba, orchestral percussion.

Junior Youth Orchestra level is intermediate/advanced, performing music from Level 2 – Level 4.

Senior Youth Orchestra level is advanced, performing full symphonic works and music from Level 4 – Level 6.
