AMP students reflect on  2011 Spring Concert experience

Following their 2011 Spring Concert performance on May 3 at the W Atlanta Midtown, our students wrote down their reflections about this experience. AMP Summer Program launches

On May 31, 2011 the Atlanta Music Project launched its first ever summer program. AMP is proud to partner with the City Of Atlanta’s “Camp Best Friends” at the beautiful Gilbert House to offer its summer program. The program is intensive, with AMP summer students receiving three hours of music instruction daily. As AMP continues to gain popularity, our enrolment has gone up accordingly. We are happy to be operating at full capacity this summer with 40 students. Be sure to join us for two concerts this summer: on June 23 at 7:00pm the AMP Choir performs and our big end of summer orchestra/choir concert is on July 22 at 7:00pm. Aisha Bowden signs with AMP

We are thrilled to announce that Aisha Bowden, our Choir Director, has signed with the Atlanta Music Project! But before Ms. Bowden takes on a leadership role with AMP, she will first spend the 2011-2012 school year as a member of the Abreu Fellows Program Class of 2012. Held at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, the Abreu Fellows Program trains gifted musicians and music educators who are dedicated to bringing El Sistema-inspired programs to the United States and beyond. During the Abreu Fellows Program Ms. Bowden will have to the opportunity to travel to Venezuela to experience El Sistema up close and personal. Following her year in Boston and Caracas, Ms. Bowden will return to the Atlanta Music Project to take on a leadership role within our organization. Coca-Cola Foundation awards Atlanta Music Project $50,000

The Coca-Cola Foundation has made a second grant to the Atlanta Music Project. After providing $30,000 to help launch AMP in fall 2010, Coca-Cola recently awarded AMP with a second grant of $50,000. AMP was awarded the funds under Coca-Cola’s “Youth Development and Education” funding bracket. AMP is grateful to the Coca-Cola Foundation for its ongoing support of our programs.

Atlanta City Council awards AMP Proclamation

At AMP at Altitude, our 2011 Spring Concert, the Atlanta City Council awarded AMP a proclamation in recognition of our program. The award was presented by Councilman Kwanza Hall of District 2. The plaque was presented to AMP Co-Founders, Al Meyers and Dantes Rameau.

AMP Co-Founder/Executive Director chosen for LEAD Atlanta

Dantes Rameau, AMP’s Co-Founder and Executive Director, has been chosen as a member of the LEAD Atlanta Class of 2012. Mr. Rameau was one of 53 young leaders picked from a pool of 200 highly qualified applicants. LEAD Atlanta is an intensive nine-month leadership development and community education program targeted at promising young professionals between the ages of 25 and 32 in Metro Atlanta. Leadership Atlanta is the oldest sustained community leadership program in the nation. Click here to read the press release.

Premier Logic Becomes AMP Sponsor

Premier Logic, an Atlanta-based product and development company, has partnered with AMP to become a sponsor. In addition to sponsoring AMP’s 2011 Spring Concert, Premier Logic also raised over $1000 for AMP at the recent ATP Golf Tournament. Click here to watch a video prepared by Premier Logic.

AMP to hold city-wide instrument donation drive

Please stay tuned for the announcement of AMP’s first city-wide instrument donation drive. We will announce details in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, if you or someone you know has an orchestral music instrument in working condition, please consider donating it to AMP so a child can have the opportunity to join AMP’s program. AMP will provide tax receipts.
